Recently I noticed Paul has published 3 books: #1 "Tenkara “Sasoi” #2 “Fly Fishing Small Streams,” and #3 “The Art of Trout Fishing in Rapid Streams” (with Cutcliffe’s and Wooley’s text and fly collection). Just thought I would bring this to your attention in case you are interested in purchasing these books. You can find them on Amazon if that is easier for you to purchase. I really like the DT book about “How to Fool Fish With Simple Flys”
If you are going to buy an English book on tenkara, start there, just a suggestion…
I bought one of the books above, the Fool Fish book is a better first choice if you don’t have any of their books yet.

I agree, however PG’s book “Tenkara Sasoi - Fly Manipulation Techniques for Tenkara and Western Fly Fishing” does provide more detail about manipulation techniques and pairs well with “How to Fool Fish With Simple Flies” Part IV: _Outlines_ of Key Specific Fishing Techniques.

Having already:
- “Tenkara - the book” by Galhardo
- “Tenkara Sasoi” by Gaskell
- “Demon’s game” by Worthing
- “Simple fly fishing” by Chouinard, Mathews, Mazzo
I’m interested in your opinion about eventually buying also “How to Fool Fish With Simple Flies”. Does it have any additional information that you think is interesting?

I found “How to Fool Fish With Simple Flies” pretty disappointing. Maybe more of Dr. Gaskell’s books combined would present a complete tenkara “education” in text form but for the price I had hoped this would offer that.
It had some new to me information (coming from the TenkaraBum site, Tenkara - the book, and Demon’s Game) but not at the price point. Roughly half of the pages are photos of flies tied by the DT crew or Japanese tenkara anglers with the recipe which makes for a nice coffee table book, bitthe first half is actual information covering ideas such as sensory noise, imitation, and fishing pressure which cover how a fish decides something is worth biting.
I agree with some of the Amazon reviews. A book on fooling fish with simple flies shouldn’t try to sell you excluded information that can be found on the DT courses or other materials! I wanted to learn about inducing takes and mimicking insect behavior, but the book directs you to buy more materials from DT to learn about presentation. Maybe I’m being harsh and need to reread it but a handful of pages worth of information was squeezed into a book, and a lot of it is “duh!” information.
