How tenugui are made

Thanks for the internet search link.

Initially I was interested in obtaining the mirror sighting type compass. {but it is essentially the same as WW2 German compass} .

I was unaware of the Adrianov military compass. (Компас военный Адрианова)
It is a much more interesting design
.
It has dual compass scales: 0˚ ` ~ 360˚, counting up cw, as on most compasses.
But the second scale is a peculiar arrangement. It is divided into 6,000 mils. 50mils/3˚. But counts up in ccw direction. :confused:

Very strange choice. Why the backward counting scale I haven’t yet figured out.

[ vs US Cammenga lensatic compass, 0˚ ~ 360˚ + 0 ~ 6,400 mils (aka miliradians), both scales count up in cw direction.
The Adrianov compass also has a plunger that locks the needle from moving, (the Cammenga also locks needle movement when the lens eye piece is closed) and it also appears to be air filled, no liquid to form a bubble. Good reliable design for cold or going to high altitudes.

{however, I have never had a Silva Sweden compass form a bubble, and 3 or four I’ve had for 40 years. But disappointed, surprised, one of my Sunnto Global compasses has formed a bubble}

Very clever design. Something unique to play around with. :wink:

However. Not so clever. The needle oscillates for a long time before setting on magnetic north. Apparently no or poor dampening system. Or maybe the author of the video had something nearby out of view that caused the delay.

Both types of compasses.

A toy to be stored wrapped inside a tenugui.
I’d probably prefer it hanging on a lanyard rather than strapped on my wrist. :wink:
