I was reading about micro thin leaders from Tactical Fly Fishing and decided to try out his recommendation of using all 0x sighter material as a line. I tried out a rods length of Orvis 0x tactical sighter with 3 feet of 5x tippet and a Utah killer bug. Casting was good, sag was noticeably less than my standard 3.5 LL, and visibility was fantastic. My drifts felt great and I caught 2x more fish than usual on a river I fish a lot. I’m thinking of going even thinner .008 inch sighter to 6x tippet and was wondering if anyone else has experimented with an all sighter line.
So, what you’re using is a #3 nylon level line. Brightly colored. Nice!
If you’re liking that (and it’s a good choice!) you might consider the tapered nylon lines from Fujino.
Not just in the very bright orange, but in white too. Surprisingly easy to see for me, not so much for the fish.
Upside is that the taper casts even better, but the cost is a lot more. Of course each line lasts me a full season (your mileage may vary).
I recall seeing a pure white sighter material, I think from Cortland(?) you might like too.

Thanks James. I’ll give some white nylon a try.
