Texas Hill Country is on my short term warm water fixed line bucket list. Good luck out on the water @Neil_Young and please share some more pics & details of your outings while there!

I’ve become very intrigued about warm water, fixed line in streams and have had my eyes on Brushy Creek (& others like the Llano) for a while. Where I live in Florida, it’s all ponds and lakes… I like my water flowing. Rio cichlids & Guadalupe bass are on the hit list. Being told one evidently needs to hit Living Waters fly shop and Round Rock donuts while in the area too.

Maybe once the pending post holiday COVID surge recedes, I can grab one of those impulse Southwest airlines fares…

yes. brushy creek is a fun place to fish. the hairy man road access point is loaded with huge sunfish. if you go during the summer, they are spawning. dont fish a food pattern fly. fish a weighted fly that you drag through their bed. they pick it up to move it out of the bed. bam. fight is on. that same pattern works on bass too. the water is so clear, you sight cast to the fish and watch them pick up the fly.

if you got some cash to spare, living water fly fishing has guides that guide all the hill country waters. i used them this summer and they were awesome.

if you do go to round rock donuts, prepare to wait. long lines.

Awesome, looks fun. I grew up in Texas but haven’t been back since I got into tenkara. It’s on the list!

How was the Guadalupe? My dad lives about 10 minutes from the Guadalupe (above the lake) and I have fished it several times. Some nice fish in there :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

unfortunately we did not make it to the guadalupe. the day we were supposed to go, i woke up not feeling good.

i was so excited to go. i bought the book “fly fishing the austin area”, did a bunch of research, packed all the gear, but it wasnt meant to be. i will try again soon.
