Custom Cork Handles

A few months back I posted about looking for a solution to add a grip to my Daiwa Seiryu X45. I tried a few things, had tennis racket tape on for a while. One day it occurred to me to that I could probably have a cork handle custom made by a rod builder. I googled “custom rod builder near me” and found a gentleman that builds beautiful fly rods about 15 min from my place of work. He was happy to help and the results are pretty fantastic. I dropped off 3 rods and have 2 of them back in my possession. The grips
In my opinion look fantastic and they really do enhance the fishability of the rods in my giant paws.

The handles look really nice. For me I thought I would never like the rods without a foam or cork handle but have found that I like the sensitivity.

The Daiwa rod was not bad without the handle, it was pretty thick and easy to hold and I admit the cork handle on that rod was largely just cosmetic. The Coco 290 and the Hakubai 240 handles just didnt feel great to me. I thought about the loss of sensitivity but in the places I use these rods my strike detection is almost entirely visible so the trade off for comfort was worth it.

He charged me 45$ per handle.

Absolutely beautiful.

Beautiful, the cork grip has a very earthy wood grained appearance and very complimentary contoured to each seiryu rod. Nice work!!
