There doesn’t seem to be any reviews or very much information at all about the Oni II. Does anyone own one or has used one and care to share their experiences? I’m interested in 4m rods that aren’t necessarily designed for big fish.
I’ve had one for years, don’t use it that much but it is a slightly stouter build compared to the ONI I, a very nice rod as are all ONI rods. I believe his site may clarify this a little more; it’s certainly not a rod that is lacking in anything.
Compared to the slew of non-japanese made and or designed rods it’s way up there on the scale as far as I’m concerned. Japanese Tenkara rods are simply the best by far, my apologies if I have insulted anyone.
Does this link help?
TENKARA ENSO: Oni type 2 rod
Thank you, I really appreciate your insight. Do you own an Oni I? If so how does the casting action compare?
As someone who lives in the UK, for me Japanese rods have become a way cheaper option than trying to import rods from one of the US manufacturers. This is primarily down to the strength of the dollar, increased US postage costs, new VAT rules and steep import duties.
Thank you, that’s a great review, really useful.
The ONI I is more refined and lighter actioned, but the ONI II is certainly no slouch at all, in fact many may prefer it, the fellow makes really nice rods, I have every model but the short one.
Remember to purchase some replacement section 1-3 when you purchase in case of breakage, which I have never had with these rods or most others for that matter.
Matt,
The oni rods were discuss in the past on this site but that has been some time ago. I have the 1,2,3,4, and the small blue one produced last year. (I can’t recall the name at this moment). He also collaborated with Nissin and made 2 rods; I’m not sure if they are still available. All of the rods are wonderful and cast beautifully. I had the oni 3 with a black handle and a camo handle. I gave my son-in-law the oni 3 with the black handle and he loves it. I use the rods sparingly just to make sure I have them for a long time. There are members here that have a ton of experience with the oni rods and I’m sure they would really enjoy talking with you about the fine points of these awesome rods. Enjoy!!
