Thank You(!) Dr. Tom for the timely reminder that if we’re Fishing For Trout? Check your Water Temperature First.
I’m finally getting out tomorrow after 5 weeks of working in the yard and an unexpected illness in the middle. A favorite lower elevation (350’) “early season” coastal stream that is open year round is now too low and the water is undoubtedly too warm to fish without a real risk of harming the fish, even if following hoot-owl protocol. I am going to try a higher elevation (1700’) stream with a slightly higher gradient and will be checking temp throughout the day. I plan to cease fishing by 2:00 PM, or sooner if the water temp rises above ~63°F.
Again, Thanks for the reminder!
