On Monday, after a long dry spell and very low water conditions the CFS on local streams was almost back to late spring runoff levels after over 3" total precipitation in 3 days. I was wet wading a mid-sized stream and the water was high, cold; est 52° F, air temp was 65° F - 68° F, winds calm.

I caught these two native Coastal Cutthroat on my DT Mutant with an unweighted Takayama-style kebari that has a pheasant tail body and peacock thorax, at the head of a pool in about 3 feet of water next to the downed tree’s rootwad. These fish are well-fed, energetic, and gave a good showing for themselves.

The Mutant casts nicely and very accurately. I really like the 5:5 action in a rod longer than 3 meters! The line was singing like a violin string but I easily moved these smaller fish away from the rootwad to play it in the middle of the stream.

I caught 3 larger fish in seams cutting through the far side of a couple of deep wide pools where I needed a little more reach, depth, and also wanted to keep a high rod tip to absorb the shock so I used my Suntech GM53 (shortest 14’ length). I was thinking about selling that rod for lack of use, but I think I’ll keep it now . They ate a beadhead rust-brown Dazzleair (Antron) knitting yarn body-olive ice dubbing thorax sakasa kebari.

This piglet; possibly a Sea Run Cutthroat was a lot of fun.

It and the other two all made runs straight at me but the length, leverage, and power of the GM53 with lateral rod movement kept them in the middle of the pools and away from submerged snags.

Hah, if you click on the picture it gives you credit for it. I would almost never hook a fishing buddy. :innocent:

I’ve said that I don’t get to fish for trout often, Wednesday was one of my days. I took three hard spills on this trip, but I caught five rainbows so I came out ahead.

Two caught on the Mutant (which I absolutely love) and three on the Hydra. Hatchery Creek below Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery in Russell Springs KY.

The trout season 2020 is just finished here in France. With the pandemic I couldn’t fish as much as would like and this summer we had very low water levels.

Late week-end the level were perfect in the rivers of Vercors

Despite the cloudy weather and cold breeze there were hatches between 14 and 15 p.m. and a lot of trout raised on my dry flies

Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Makes me envious. Over the past 24 hours we got about 23" (58.5 cm) of snow and it was -4F (-20C) yesterday.

Tristan,

For some reason I find the most joy in the smallest of fish that take my kebari. They are the most fierce and funny. I usually chuckle a bit when they come shimmering in the light.

Got out the otherday and caught this stocker that seems to have gone wild…or at least had wild colors. It has survived the gauntlet of herons, osprey, and probably 10,000 maniacs.

also got a couple of grey rainbows and this stocker brookie
