Wild Fish color can be a factor of the environment they are in. If that sand in your photo was widespread the coloration of the fish may match it. Dark colored fish dark environment, light colored light environment.
The backs of those fish are a dead ringer for the bottom they swim above.
Not sure how long it takes trout, but striped bass take a few weeks to go from dark to light. We always know we have migratory fish when dark striped fish appear on sandy beach or lighter striped ones appear on rocky shores.
I’ve decided to take my lunch breaks outside of the office. Today I had some company in the form of my Nirvana 400 and some sunfish! Managed to get a picture of the smallest one caught today.
I was the only one fishing there who didn’t get skunked! The kids fishing next to me were perplexed!
I was also the only one there fishing in scrubs.
Got some reps in with the Kowasa this morning before the weekend rush. Super fun little rod. Probably could’ve used a little more length in a few stretches, but it performed well either way
Mike,
The blue coloring on the lower face and lower body are beautiful. I have never seen this much blue in Virginia specimens. The extended lobe on the operculum is also really cool looking. Great catch!!
As soon as that clock hits 5, I’m out the door… Great post work trip today. Thank you to @Gressak for some tips on spots to fish. This spot (among others) have been great.
Here’s a couple of recent catches! First Golden Shiner on tenkara for me and the smallest Bluegill I’ve ever caught. She could barely get the fly in her mouth!
Another trip I went on trying out wet wading with “wading socks”. (Actually worked well but I got pretty cold later in the day)
Still on the hunt for trout…but I can’t complain about catching bass.
