I’m sure there are many that won’t be happy about this message and for that, I apologize. I won’t belabor this, but come January of 2025, it will be nine years since this forum went live and admittedly, I’m getting a little burnt out. I’ve invested lots of time and money and in the early years, many of you also generously donated to support the forum (thank you to the many who gave ). But my time is coming to an end here.
On top of the above, site usage and views have dramatically fallen off, indicating to me that few people are using the site any longer.
If anyone out there is a tech oriented fishing geek like me and has some understanding of Linux sysadmin stuff and is interested in taking over the forum, please send me a PM - do not reply directly here.
If no one shows any interest in taking over the site, I will be permanently putting this site in read-only mode by 1 December and fully shutting it down by no later than 31 December 2024.
Thanks to the community for all of your support and participation over the years.
Regardless of what happens with the forum, thank you for all that you (and everyone else here) have provided. I’ve learned a lot, and am a better fisherman for it.
That said, are there any surviving alternatives for knowledge sharing? I was first introduced to tenkara through Backpacking Light, and then read up on Tenkara USA forums, and then learned a huge amount from Tom’s blog, and found my way here.
Thank You Peder for providing me, and all of us, such a great place to learn and share knowledge about what has become my favorite way to fish.
May peace and abundance always be with you, and may every fish always want to be the first to eat your flies.
Thank you much for all the effort and hard work you have provided. This was a great help when I lost my wife, of 45 years, to ovarian cancer. This forum has been awesome. I had a feeling this was going to happen but I was hoping and praying I was wrong.
Thank you Peder for everything.
Thank you for this resource Peder and thank you for your time and effort to provide a place for us to talk. Hard to believe 9 years have moved, it seems like just yesterday the forum started.
Hello everyone. Thank you for the kind and thoughtful messages. My weekend was a bit busy and hadn’t had time to respond.
Thanks also to those who sent me private message wanting to help. Those are greatly appreciated.
Within about 15 minutes of posting the message, @cc121 reached out to me and has offered to take over responsibility for maintaining the forum. I have been working with him in the background to get it switched over. Regular users should not see any disruption of the service and it will be here for, hopefully, years to come.
I may need to temporarily freeze the site in read only mode so I can take a backup to do the transfer, but I will post a message when that happens.
Alright everyone. I am going to temporarily put the site into read-only mode in order to make a backup and not lose any messages.
Please be assured, the site will stay running. As I said, @cc121 has agreed to do that for the community. We are just in the process of doing the switch and it may take a few days.
Please note there is an odd chance you do not receive any emails from 10CT for 24 hours or so while we make the changes.
Hi again everyone. I just wanted to let you know that a vast majority of the transfer has been completed. You are more than welcome to use the forum as you have always done.
Thanks again, to @cc121 for his willingness to take over and maintain the site for the community. He will be your lead from now on. I will still occasionally show up and am more than willing to help out if needed.
Thanks everyone for your patience and understanding, it is much appreciated.
Hello Peder
I would like to thank you for everything that you have done. I am afraid that I have not been around very much in the last three years or so but sadly I haven’t done much fishing either. Unfortunately I have had a few health problems with my heart but despite that and being recently diagnosed with bladder cancer I am still ticking over. I still tie flies most days and dream of the fish that they could catch. I still have every intention of wetting one or two of them when able. Here in the UK I don’t think there is much interest in Tenkara//Fixed Line Flyfishing and as yet I have never seen anybody else doing it. Their loss because I find Fixed Line Fly fishing one of the most enjoyable ways to fish. I am restricted to a local deep water canal full of English coarse fish species. Not the most ideal location but I have caught the odd fish in the past. II don’t know who was the most surprised - the fish or me!
I still have my T rod and have every intention of flicking the odd fly or two in the future.
I hope you find time in the future to fish those ‘Blue Lines’ in Vermont…
Thank you once again for your very hard work keeping the Forum going.
Tight T-Lines
David
