Amazing world of small size
Hook size ＃１８ 蠅毛鉤 （FLY－FLY）
I doubt I could tie a kebari that small, size 18. I do well to tie size 14.
かつおかけばり [katsuoka kebari] 勝岡毛針.
Seems to be a company or brand name.
And was a member of Bantsuri group. The link to Katsuoka on the below website is not found
Bantsuri Member Katsuoka
However, I found a website with a map to the company.
And the left side picture in the middle row on this Honda website is labeled
「勝岡バリ」こと勝岡毛針製作所 [ (Katsuoka bari) Katsuoka Kebari Manufacturing Co., Ltd.
As traditional production areas Hyogo (bansyu needle), Ishikawa prefecture (Kaga needle), Miyagi prefecture (Morioka needle), Nagano prefecture (Sanada needle) Kochi prefecture (Tosa needle) others are available
The kebari of recent years has been unified and characteristics of the production area have disappeared
There are manufacturing plants in various production areas
Personal production was also been done
Are those ayu flies or kebari? Or both?
Most websites I see talk about using Ayu kebari to fish for Ayu using a tenkara rod, or using a Hae Rod, ハエ竿, which many people use for tenkara fishing.
Which is what the writer of this blog has written. There are a few links in the blog, one is to a Flash/Digi-book of Ayu kebari.
テンカラとハエ竿 と鮎毛ばり・・。Tenkara, & Hae Rod & Ayu Kebari.
If anything …
I wonder if it is trinket fishing,
but Hayakawa and others near Saki River are Mecca, …
In June, it looks like tenkara · · ·chonchon fishing with hae rods, maybe.
Tenkra & Hae Rod & Ayu kebari
Here is Todoroki-san’s post Ayu Kebari for Tenkara rod, ( I think)
Or maybe it’s Tenkara Rod for Ayu kebari. I can never get straight which way to read phrases either side of the 用 (for) word.
(ah, the digital translation throws out some four-letter words. Which may or may not be wrong translations)

However, Todoroki-san post has a list of Ayu kebari, I assume for fishing for Ayu, however they should appeal to other fish. Tying ayu kebari appears to be a 7 step process. More complex than the standard tenkara kebari. Pretty though
By changing the size OK
What I have shown is to piece together the fragments of history
Take out the secret flow hidden in the history of tenkara-kebari
These have become the basis and transformed into the traditional kebari
of various places
The color of kebari is black, white, brown but
There are also various blacks in that black. Both white and brown are the to same
The combination is also various, but the kebari is traditionally selected among them
Please do not forget that it is the kebari that all the tenkara master-people created
Okay, that make sense to me. Thank you for the clarification. Your research into the background and history of kebari is very fascinating.
It has not been introduced in detail until now
“ayu-kebari” is a kebari specialized for sweetfish
The so-called “Husu- kebari” is a kebari for river fish
I get carried away thinking of “kebari”
