This is from a trip back in the middle of September. Fished around the area of Dorchester.
Wow!!! Awesome fish and the scenery is amazing!! Rob, I’m jealous, I want to catch fish like this in VA. The pics are great.
Mike, just come to the Driftless. Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa are all great. The Campout in 2023 will be the first weekend in June.
David,
This seems very intriguing. How long of a drive is it to the Campout, any estimates from Richmond, VA?
I wouldn’t mind catching one of those big trout you show.
Richmond, VA to Viroqua, Wisc: 1069 miles and 16 ½ hours. However there will be some guys coming from the east coast so you may be able to hook up with someone.
June would definitely be an easier time to access these waters vs September due to the way the vegetation grows along the creeks. Sometimes getting into the water is easy and straightforward but getting out is entirely different. Sometimes it ended up being an extended trial and error bushwhack because of private property. Most of the time we would have to stay in the streambed until we found a public easement or a bridge to exit. That would lead to a very long day and a long walk back to the car.
Wow, I haven’t seen (or been to) that area since my early 20s. Last time I was there it was about 105 degrees Fahrenheit (40C) and humidity was nearly 100%. Not to mention mosquitos were some of the worst I’ve ever experienced. Which is saying a lot, since I grew up in the midwest. Glad the fishing is still good.
Peder, the fishing in the Driftless is outstanding. It’s time for you to make the Campout.
There’s no skeets in September. I think June up in that region is the same way, no skeets. There would be less vegetation to deal with in June also.
