Nymph Hook Inversion And the Myth of the Jig Hook

I agree that a bead or some other weight will invert a nymph pattern so that the hook point rides up. But I like tying on jig hooks, so I’ll still keep a few on hand.

From my own experience I seem to get far less snags with jig versus non jig hooks.

I tend to favor jig hooks, as well…especially when jigging a small streamer with a marabou tail in a stream. On stillwater with an indicator, a balanced leech on a jig hook is my go-to fly. I will even use the balanced leech when tightlining in a stream.
