Are there any vendors in the US that currently sell the Oni type 1? If not, has anyone recently purchased one directly from Oni shop in Japan and can say what sort of tariffs they had to pay?
I do know that a tamo ($275) would cost aprx $170 extra with shipping and tariffs. I expect it would be at least that on an Oni type 1.

I received a Tenryu TF39TA from Plat in December and my tariff charge through DHL was just under $60.00, paid directly to DHL before my rod arrived. No issues at all. Last month I received my Oni Type 1 & Oni Type 3, UPS was the shipper and I paid UPS $124.00 to cover the tariff fee - So it was close to $60.00 + or - for each rod. The tariff fee will depend on the value of the shipped item. No issues getting my rods from Japan. FredSG

Thanks, that is useful information. That would put it well over $300. Maybe I will ask around a bit to see if someone here is getting rid of one first, HAHA!

Yes, I am sure I will love it. I have owned a Type 3 for many years. I have many fantastic rods so it’s not exactly a need. I have been wavering between a Type 1 and an Anglo & Co rod for a long time. I’ve almost pulled the trigger a couple of times but there is always a snag. Tried to order from Anglo & Co around 2018/19 and they were back ordered for several months so weren’t taking orders. Then tried to order the Oni and all shipping to the US from Japan was halted due to a little pandemic. Now tariffs.
I don’t find the tariffs prohibitive all that much. Some vendors have lowered their price, some no. It is more convenient when the Vendor does all the tariff work, many do and many don’t .
Of course I would prefer not to have to pay a tariff at all. Many vendors are too small to cut prices, like American Vendors when they come up to a foreign tariff.
The Oni rods are truely exceptional I have been using them for years, they are certainly worth the extra price.
I just brought in a Type 1 and paid $72.70. It came via UPS and they just sent me an e-mail to pay it. This was just last month so very recent.
Thank you. Side question, did you have to sign for delivery? I recall having to sign for my Type III many years ago. If I need to sign I will have to have it sent to my work address. How long from order to deliver for you?
I didn’t have to sign, they just dropped it off at the door.
