That should be a pretty memorable experience to get it directly from him personally.
Omg omg omg thatās a 1 fist edition?
Do you fish it??
Yes and yes. I also have a 1st edition with a foam handle. It is quite different from the current foam handles. Denser foam and a different shape. Very nice.
I am at two rods, Furaibo zoom and Gamakatsu Suimu 5m.
Thatās doing it for me.
But, I am a liar.
I bought a Nissin Mini. I sold my Mini V3 quiver (2.7, 3.6 and 4.5) because I wanted to try to do it with one rod for home streams and non fishing holiday travel. The Furaibo is a short nesting rod and durable but I always feel bad packing it in my travel bag.
So I bought a Nissin Mini.
Now things seem right, got down to 2 for a while, maybe Iāll stay at 2, Iāll know next year after I travel a bit with the miniā¦
Iāve sold off a lot of my rods and now only have a Karasu 360 and Karasu 400 in my possession. Out of all the rods Iāve owned/sold, I think I miss the Oni Type 1 and 3 the most.
Jay, thatās pretty cool.
Iām doing a piece on quivers, got about 25 guys committed to helping me with the project. What if I send you a template and you answer the questions and send a couple of photos.
You in?
Rob Ruff?
If you are, let me know.
NotoriousToker, you too.
Iād be happy to participate.
Itās interesting for me to read this. Thatās because Iāve decided to narrow down my quiver to basically the same thing. For me itās three rods: the Karasu 360 and 400 and my Oni type 1. Good choice in rods.
I thought about selling the Oni for a hot second, then fished it again and just canāt give it up. Itās a brilliant rod and just different from the two Karasu. Iām actually going to be posting the remaining rods I have for sale this weekend. Iāve thought about it long enough and am ready to part with them and narrow down my quiver. The three I mention above are the only three that Iām drawn to when I want to go out.
Adam. Just a friendly reminder, if you put an @ symbol in front of someoneās user name like @notorioustoker or @r_ruff a person will get mentioned and be notified about it. That way theyāll see your question if they donāt read all posts or visit very frequently.
Thanks @Peder. I appreciate your help.
Iāve been standing on my soapbox preaching (and arguing) this point and others for a long time.
The manufacturers and sellers wonāt like it.
At all.
The fishermen will, thatās what I am, a fisherman, not a consumer.
ā¦and you should make your own stuff too. But I said that already.
@Peder, are you interested in participating?
I think it would be nice to have you in there too.
Let me know.
There is room for a couple more.
@Peder Hey thatās a cool feature. Never realized it.
@anon86692127 Yes I can contribute to your cause. Iām returning from Utah today so whenever is fine.
Ok, send me an email.
Link above.
Iāll send you the info.
This is turning out really nice.
Imagine dealing with 25 guys, different contact methods, getting the idea across, collecting the data, putting it together, making it right, having fun at the same time?
This I enjoy.
Itās a learning experience for sure.
For all of us if you are into this sort of thing.
Thanks for the invite Adam. I sent you an email.
Room for one more, thatās it.
Iām at about 30 people now and am starting the phase where I send out the template, excited to be working on this. A very wide range of tenkara fishers.
I currently have just a single rod, the Zen Tenkara Suzume. Iāve caught 400+ trout on it this year.
I have the new Dragontail Mizuchi rod coming in the next month or so. Itāll be interesting to see how it compares to the Suzume. I had a TenkaraBum 40 until a couple weeks ago, but it snapped in half as I was casting it
This year Iāve been using 3:
Suntech Keiryu Special 27 (@ 9.5 ft / 2.7 m)
for use on small alpine streams, or where thereās lots of overhanging trees & vegetation
Oni Type III (@ 11ft / 3.4m)
for anything and everything
Nissin Zerosum ONI Honryu 395 (@ 13ft / 4m)
for use on large rivers
Just got back from 5 days fishing across northern New Mexico, put all 3 through their paces and had a blast doing it. These rods have been a ton of fun and have served me well so far.
I had my eye on the Kerasu rods when they first came out (having previously been a fan of Paul and John) but resisted purchasing them at the time, however was always super curious if those who owned them were happy with their performance. It sounds like based on @Peder and @itsjaywhatsup posts above they are indeed every bit top quality and as advertised.
Thanks for sharing everyone, always enjoy reading pros and cons about what works for other Tenkara anglers.
