Then one year at Band Camp - Wood music

I’m sure in grade school you’ve heard the question asked, “If a tree falls in the forest, and no one is there to hear it, does it make any sound?” What if slices of trees are brought into a studio? Would you still be stumped?

Have you ever wondered what the sound of trees would be like?
What if the sounds of trees could actually be translated?

Bartholomäus Traubeck has created something unique that translates tree rings into music by playing them on a record player. Instead of using a needle to play the record, “sensors work together to gather information about the wood’s color and texture and then uses an algorithm that translates variations into piano notes.

This record features seven recordings from different Austrian trees.

When You Put Tree Rings on a Record Player, The Sound Is Unexpectedly Beautiful

Social distancing leaves time to find odd stuff.
Or in my case. Odder stuff than is usual.
