I took the Sawanaboori 53 out today. Caught fish nymphing, on jig streamers, swinging, and on hoppers.
The trout fishing season is almost finish here in France .
Yesterday I went fishing with a friend on a nice canyon in the Vercors, near Grenoble.
The river has limestone bedrock ant the water is crystalclear.
The trout are stripped , like this young one
When they are older only 3 dark strips remain
Here is my latest one for the 2021 season , not very big but so cute fish. All the fish are released, we hope to meet them again next year
@JeanSantos thanks for sharing. thats some beautiful scenery there. nice fish too.
did you make the landing net?
Very nice. Thanks.
Thank You Neil and David
@ Neil_Young : Yes we built our own landing nets ( tamo ) The frame is made out of a single branch of hackberry ( micocoulier ) This tree has been used for centuries to make wooden hay forks in a small town near my home : Sauve
http://fourchedesauve.free.fr/conservatoire%20fourche/fabrication.htm
Its wood is light and very convenient for a tamo, once you cut the central branch . We purchased the mesh from Tenkara-Ya or from inexpensive Chinese landing nets
thanks for the info. we have tons of hackberry here. i will have to be on the lookout for an appropriate branch.
Yesterday’s outing with the Mutant (380 cm length 4:6) started out with a 2 mile hike in to hit the water at 12:00 PM. 15 minutes later I launched a 4" Redside Shiner like the one shown here from a couple of months ago (the pic of the yesterday’s fish was blurred & over exposed).
It’s a pretty species of fish, but I was after native Costal Cutthroat; possibly the Sea Run variant in coming into their natal stream to hang with the residents for a short time. 15 minutes later a Cutt (likely a rezzie) took my fly.
In another 15 minutes this guy mistakenly thought my Takayama style Pheasant Tail would help him reach kahuna status and coughed up a Snow Berry, along with a partially digested (deer?) fly and Shiner in the net.
Another 15 minutes (there’s a pattern here) and a ways upstream this this guy; a possible Sea Run, was hooked upstream in an eddy behind a boulder and log in a run but immediately shot down into a small pool below me. At the start I was not in control

The next section was a wide deep weedy pool section with a lot of fry and small shiners so I moved through. One hour later that included a lunch break I was back on my 15 minute schedule to get 3 more Cutts from 9" to 11" before my 1.5 mile hike out to the car.
This sounds like a great fishing day.
A snow berry fly pattern hu? I might give that a try too.
C’est juste à coté de chez moi, j’y pêche régulièrement, joli parcours !
Le monde est petit n’est-ce pas Olivier ? Il faudra bien qu’un jour on s’y retrouve
caught this one in the drainage ditch after work yesterday. right after i let him go i got another on the line. he really bent the rod for a few seconds and then he snapped my 4lb tippet. i will keep trying for him.
Kris, what an awesome fish!!! Way to go. The brown trout looks at least 17-18 inches in length. Wait a minute, fishermen round length up so let’s call it 20 in. to be fair about the measurement.
I had a tough session today. This fellow and an acrobatic rainbow at the last minute made it worth it though.
